Man, I really haven't been updating my website much, have I? :)
<p>
The <a href="http://communitycolo.net/">CCCP</a> just pulled off
a successful benefit dinner at <a href="http://www.codecon.info/">CodeCon
2003</a> thanks to help from a huge number of volunteers. It was very
exciting - we were hoping for 50 people to show up and 81 did!
<a href="http://blogs.osafoundation.org/mitch/">Mitch Kapor</a> spoke
at the dinner thanks to <a href="http://bitconjurer.org/">Bram</a>'s
amazing efforts - I managed to get DJ Tonic to spin music during the
event and CCCP SuperHeroVolunteer
<A href="http://smi-web.stanford.edu/people/dugan/">Jon Dugan</a>
pulled together the catering from a local dim sum joint. Yay!
<p>
I've been learning <A href="http://www.iaido.org/pages/whatisiaido.html">Iaido</a>
(Japanese for <i>slicing people into french fries efficiently</i>) every
Sunday for the last two months at the San Francisco
<a href="http://iaido.org/">Nishi Kaigan Iaido Dojo</a>.
Much fun, good concentration. And the kicker of it all is that
we go out for <a href="http://xpress.sfsu.edu/storys01.php?storyid=5266">ice
cream</a> afterwards! That's right - lethal swordplay
followed directly by a double scoop of dolce de leche and rum raisin
in a waffle cone.
<p>
I've also been dancing a lot, which is good. I'm always healthier
when I dance a lot. I go to <a href="http://www.cafecocomo.com/">Cafe
Cocomo</a> and the <A href="http://www.sfstation.com/clubs/cloud9.htm">Cloud
9 Motel</a> to dance it up to funky house music by international
DJs like <A href="http://www.frenchylefreak.com/frenchy/Frame.html">Frenchy
Le Freak</a>, who recognizes my face at this point by my mad dancing. ;)
(note: not skillful dancing.)
<p>
I put an MP3 CD player in my car, which really
rocks except for when it skips, and it seems to skip a lot. But it's so
much better than the radio!
<p>
There haven't been any pictures put on the site lately since my camera
got stolen about two months ago. But I've got a new camera coming
tomorrow and am going to be taking lots of pictures...such as during
my weeklong trip to Hawaii that starts this Sunday! :) I'm so excited
to be going with my most longstanding friend, Heather. We've got a
<a href="http://www.mauihostel.com/">cute place to stay</a> and are
<i>quite</i> looking forward to it. We haven't seen each other in *ages*.
<p>
I've been amusing myself with the San Francisco dating scene. After a
little drama hither and thither, it's become pretty clear that the best
way to approach the whole deal is to meet the other person and hope to
be friends. The whole love-at-first-sight-whilrwind-romance thing just
isn't real. You have to get to know someone first. That change in
perspective has made things a lot more casual in meeting people; there
really isn't any pressure to do anything but hang out and enjoy time
together. It's a good excuse to leave work before midnight, too. I've
gotten to make some great friends out of folks with whom things didn't
necessarily work out romantically; we even give each other dating tips!
One of my <a href="http://xanga.com/sp3">best friends</a> is an
"ex". All-in-all, the dating scene has been a win, even if I don't have
a girlfriend. That will happen in its own due time.
<p>
Between work, the non-profit, dancing, dating, iaido, and friends, I've
been kept rather busy, sometimes exhaustively so. (CCCP is almost at 60
servers now!!) It's hard when it feels
like you have to do 40 things at once but can't really do any of them
very well. It's a good thing I don't watch television or I think I'd
just explode. The weird part is that most of my friends these days
work even harder than I do. It's hard to get perspective around here.
<p>
I've got to get back to some wacky Microsoft MP3 streaming issues. It's
raining hard, 10:26pm on a Monday night. Life is good; with any luck,
I'll be starting in the Fall of 2004 at
<a href="http://www.hbs.edu/mba">Harvard Business School</a>.
Now I just need to get in. Doing so counts as a first step towards
"daring mighty things" I think.
