A Graph

I have prepared a graph of the music industry and its associated technology acquisitions to better understand the relations therein.

If you are using IE6 -- note that the graph may appear squished, with text too hard to read. If this is the case, IE6 is "automatically resizing" the picture to fit in your browser window. You don't want this. To fix it, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced and look under Multimedia for "Enable Automatic Image Resizing" -- make sure it's unchecked.

Commentary

As noted by Darryl Neudorf, EMI is ambiguously involved with both MusicNet and pressplay -- they're tightly aligned with the former but have licensed their content to the latter. Microsoft and Yahoo are both on the front page of pressplay, as is Roxio, a partially-owned EMI subsidiary. Yes, this industry is confusing. Don't forget that MP3.com is part of this new world order, but in a totally different way.

Corrections

Please do email me your comments, corrections, additions, and criticisms as regards this graph. =)

How Did I Do It?

The graph was made with graphviz, an Open Source graphing tool. Here is the text file that generated the graph.
