Work, new housing
I did manage to find housing, thankfully -- I've been living in HackerDojo 3.0 since June 1st. It was pretty scary - we didn't actually have the lease signed until 24 hours before our move-out deadline for the old place. We had the U-Haul idling out front as we inked our signatures -- I really hope I never have to do a down-to-the-wire move like that again. The new place is nice; it's the first time I've ever lived in a city, really. Parking is somewhat crazy, but I managed to coax a parking spot out of my landlady for a gentle $175 a month. My room is about a quarter of the size it was in Woodside, but that means it's actually a reasonable size to clean and maintain. Consequently, my room is (eerily? delightfully?) clean these days, which is a real surprise. We're having movie nights on Thursdays, so feel free to come! (here are directions.) If you want to keep in touch with house events, join the friends-of-the-house mailing list! Work has been pretty insane -- I've never worked harder at a job, or been around smarter people, even at Stanford. It's amazingly humbling and empowering all at once. I'm starting to ramp up to their level though, mainly because it's expected of me. I got my camera back, finally. It broke at Christmas and I had sent it in around March-ish. I eventually figured out the unlisted phone number I had to call to remind them to actually fix the camera before they did. But yay, camera! New pictures will probably be coming to the site shortly. Two weekends ago, I took a spontaneous road trip with Vanessa, and the two of us just meandered all over the place: it was pretty sweet. We went in a biplane and asked for the "kamikaze" special (we found out later we were the only ones to do so all day) -- we strapped in and pulled up 3000 feet with emergency parachutes slung on our backs, leather Amelia Earhart-style hats flapping in the "breeze". It was pretty fantastic. My non-profit continues to grow, slowly. It looks like the Special Olympics may decide to move in their backend operations with us, which would just be fantastically cool. | ||
